What office are you running for?: Board of Commissioners
Please share with us a short personal/professional biography:: I was born in Salisbury, NC. I am the second oldest of 4 boys, and my family and I are very close and supportive of each other. My wife, Teresa, is also from Salisbury and we recently celebrated 31 years of marriage. We have two lovely children, our son, Shane and daughter, Melissa who are presently serving the community as ICU nurses at Carolinas Medical Center. We have lived in the Huntersville area for 29+ years and have lived in our current home in Sherwood Forest for the last 15 years.
I worked in the Corporate Banking Field for 20 plus years before leaving to start my on Developer/Real Estate Management/Contracting Company called Teron Service, Inc. As an entrepreneur/capitalist, these experiences have provided me the tools needed to succeed as your Huntersville Town Commissioner. I was elected as a Commissioner to the Town of Huntersville in November of 2007 and I am completing my first term. Prior to being elected, I was a member of the Town Board of Adjustments for 5 years of which 18 months I served as the Chairman. I was also a member of the East Huntersville Area Development which completed their project and submitted the final recommendation to the Town Board in March of 2007.
Most important organizations you belong to (up to three):: Huntersville First Baptist – Ordained as a Deacon in 1994.
List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years:: 1. Completing my first term as a Huntersville Commissioner servicing Huntersville residents.
2. I was a member of the Town Board of Adjustments for 5 years of which 18 months I served as the Chairman.
3. I served as a member on the East Huntersville Development Committee, worked on mission groups with Huntersville First Baptist, worked to bring area churches together to assist in the needs of Huntersville individuals who are struggling with job loss, debt, etc, and helped the soup kitchen through the permit process.
Why are you running for the office of your choice?: I believe my entrepreneurial expertise, love of Huntersville, positive attitude of public service, willingness to think outside the box and caring nature has served me well as a Huntersville Commissioner.
What makes you the most qualified candidate?: My broad experience from working in Corporate Banking and service industry, and as a small business owner, has given me the knowledge and tools to serve as an advocate for all the people of Huntersville not just select areas. In the past 25 years, Huntersville has undergone a change from corn fields to computers and I have been lucky enough to be part of this change. While serving on the Town Board I’ve continued to recognize both our rich history all the while maintaining a finger on the pulse of tomorrow. I believe with all my years of Banking, service, training, Education, and proven entrepreneurial expertise/spirit and love of public service makes me a great candidate for Huntersville Commissioner.
What regional issue do you believe most affects your municipality (such as crime, roads, schools, etc.) and what role do you believe your municipality can play in improving it?: I believe that Roads and Schools share an equal importance. First priority of course is HWY 73 widening. We have received Federal stimulus funding to widen Hwy 73, but the problem was initially caused by not managing the growth properly years ago. Connector roads, Stumptown ext, 2 way pair, etc are needed to ensure proper traffic flow. As far as schools, Torrence Creek is tremendously overcrowded and needs immediate relief.
Do you believe there could be better collaboration among the municipalities in Mecklenburg County? If so, what would you suggest to improve it?: I believe Huntersville is a donor area for Mecklenburg County and does not receive its fair share of county taxes to spend back on projects within the area. We are shorted when it comes to schools, parks, water sewer etc. I believe more proactive communication between Huntersville and Mecklenburg County is needed to help this short fall.
How can residents get involved in your campaign? Please include campaign manager or volunteer coordinator’s contact information.: I DO NOT accept monetary contributions, but ask for volunteers to distribute literature at the early election and election day polls, host an event in your neighborhood, assist in phone calls, etc. You can visit my website at www.voteronjulian.com or contact me at 704-607-9642.
