Please share with us a short personal/professional biography::My husband and I moved to Mint Hill twenty-two years ago from Charlotte and we have raised our family here. Our boys are both graduates of Independence High School. My husband operates a small business in Mint Hill. I am 57 years old and have been married for 37 years.
I have more than 35 years of business experience. I have worked as a bookkeeper, customer service representative, purchase agent, shipping manager and I am currently the Operations Manager for a wealth management firm. I. have an Associates Degree in Business Administration.
Most important organizations you belong to (up to three)::Mint Hill Scottish Society (Founding Member)
Mint Hill Historical Society
List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years::I am proud to have served the Town of Mint Hill for two consecutive terms as Commissioner. During that time plans have been started to build a new Town Hall, a Comprehensive Transportation Plan has been adopted and a tree ordinance to protect existing trees and provide future trees for the Town has developed. These are all the result of the hard work of Town Staff, the Planning Board, the Board of Commissioners and others. I am proud to have been a part of .these plans that look to the future. It is my hope that we will continue to work to keep Mint Hill a great place to live.
Why are you running for the office of your choice?: I have served the Town of Mint Hill for four years and I would like to have the opportunity to continue to serve. I have no “agenda” other than to help Mint Hill continue to be a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I believe in “giving back” when you can and I believe that my personal and professional experience made me a good candidate for the role of Commissioner. I do bring 35+ years of business experience to the Board
What makes you the most qualified candidate?: For six years I was a reporter for a local weekly paper. During those six years I attended almost every meeting of the Board of Commissioners. I researched and wrote articles on issues that came before the Board. I got a real education in how local government is run and developed desire to be a part of the process. I am a good listener, and a problem solver by nature. I feel that I am well qualified to be a member of the Board of Commissioners.
What regional issue do you believe most affects your municipality (such as crime, roads, schools, etc.) and what role do you believe your municipality can play in improving it?: Roads are a major regional issue for Mint Hill. Unlike larger cities, most of Mint Hill’s larger streets are maintained by the State. Most of these roads are in need of improvements. It is crucial that the Town continue to work with regional organizations and directly with the State to push for road improvements in Mint Hill.
Do you believe there could be better collaboration among the municipalities in Mecklenburg County? If so, what would you suggest to improve it?: There are several organizations that are currently working to bring together the municipalities in not only Mecklenburg County but also in the greater Piedmont region in a effort to foster communication and collaboration.
