List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years. (150 word limit): Three pieces of legislation in which I played a lead role are the 2006 and 2010 comprehensive ethics bills applicable to the General Assembly and the Executive branch, the legislation establishing renewable energy goals and requirements for North Carolina, and the comprehensive identity theft legislation. I am also particularly happy about the role I played over several budget years in significantly boosting funding for the court system in Mecklenburg county.

What past experience do you have that you think best prepares you for this office? (150 word limit): In the past 12 years in the General Assembly, I have see plenty of “the good, the bad, and the ugly,” and I think I have learned to tell the difference. I also believe my prior experience in Charlotte city government has given me a good understanding of the importance of the state-local working relationship.

Do you believe the state government is living up to its responsibility to adequately fund education? Please explain your position. (200 word limit): The total amount of money being spent is sufficient, but I am not persuaded it is always used in the most effective manner. New programs are continually being layered one on top of one another with little thought to how all the pieces work together.

Do you believe the state government can help bring more jobs and economic development to North Carolina? If so, how? (150 word limit): Every survey of business leaders shows that their top needs from government are a skilled, educated workforce and good infrastructure (roads, rail, airports, etc.) Everything else is of secondary importance.

Do you support an independent entity that would change political boundaries after each census rather than the current process (where the legislature changes the boundaries)?: NO

How can residents get involved in your campaign? Please include campaign manager or volunteer coordinator’s contact information.: Campaign Manager: Dan McCorkle, (704) 737-4791
