Current Occupation: Attorney
Education–Highest Degree: Juris Doctor (law degree)
Most important organizations you belong to (up to three): Charlotte City Council
List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years. (150 word limit): I’ve approved 196 police positions, which helped us reduce the sizes of all police divisions, greatly increased police visibility throughout the community and improved safety throughout the community.
I’ve also supported public safety throughout the community by approving the new Metro and Providence police stations.
I’m proud to be serving my third term on the Charlotte City Council and as Chair of the Budget Committee, I’ve responsibly managed our .6 billion budget.
How does your education and experience prepare you to manage the District Attorney’s office? (150 word limit): As an attorney, who has practiced both criminal and civil law, I understand our legal system. As a City Councilman who has worked in our community, put police officers into our community, overseen a .6 billion budget and 6500 city employees, I understand the way government and large organizations function. I will use that experience and knowledge to institute a community prosecution program in the DA’s office (to address the revolving door), to bring better technology to the DA’s office and to leverage our relationships with other elected officials to improve our access to resources for the DA’s office.
If elected, what changes do you plan to make in the district attorney’s office? (200 word limit): I plan to implement a community prosecution program in coordination with CMPD to help address our repeat crime challenges. Such a program would allow the DA’s office to work in tandem with neighborhoods and police to compile better cases against those who are victimizing our community and hold those individuals accountable.
