Current Occupation: Small business owner
Education–Highest Degree: BA Social Work, West Virginia Wesleyan College
Most important organizations you belong to (up to three): By Grace Alone Ministries.
Charlotte Alumni Chapter of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Vice President of the alumni council of West Virginia Wesleyan College
List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years. (150 word limit): I was one of the founding members of Visiting Friends Ministry at my former church. This was a ministry to members who were alone, shut-ins or in nursing homes. We organized volunteers to visit them and take them places.
I am the secretary and founding member of By Grace Alone Ministries. This ministry sponsors mission trips to third world countries as well as distributes food and clothing to those less fortunate in the Charlotte area.
I am a founding member of the Charlotte area Alumni Chapter of West Virginia Wesleyan College. The 150+ Charlotte area alums plan social events, outreach to area students who attend the college and organize various functions for students and their families when they come to Charlotte for academic and athletic events.
What qualities or experience do you bring that will make you an effective county commissioner? (150 word limit): This is the first time I have run for public office, so I will bring a fresh and new perspective to the commission. I believe in restoring honesty and integrity to the county commission. The voters should know I will do what I believe is right for the county, including making tough decisions, whether popular or not. I am honest; I will listen; I will bring transparency into the office.
Do you think county government is living up to its responsibility to adequately fund education? Please explain your position (200 word limit): Yes I do. The county gives our school system nearly three times what is required by law. I actually think the budget can be cut, and the County Commission should require that CMS be accountable to the board for the monies given them. For example, the two elementary schools closest to where I live have over 80% free or reduced lunches, many for the children of illegal aliens. The taxpayers should not be required to pay for this. Also, funding for CMS is designated for Kindergarten through High School, however, millions are spent on pre-K programs.
How can residents get involved in your campaign? Please include campaign manager or volunteer coordinator’s contact information.: Campaign Manager is Andrea Arterburn 704-844-0988 asarterburn@aol.com
One way the community can get involved in my campaign is to help distribute information about me to the people in my district. Another way is to donate money to my campaign. The most important thing that the voters in my district can do is to vote.
