Most important organizations you belong to (up to three): Three organizations I belong to are: the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Vice-Chair), Women Executives, and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Advisory Board.
List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years. (150 word limit): Three organizations I belong to are: the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Vice-Chair), Women Executives, and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Advisory Board.
What past experience do you have that you think best prepares you for this office? (150 word limit): My past experiences include participating in numerous voluntary organizations at the local, state and national level. I have also served as the Chaplain’s Assistant at Presbyterian Hospital, and was the Executive Director of the Charlotte Council on Alcoholism (now Annuvia). Having paid and volunteer work in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg has given me a strong appreciation and knowledge of the community. Working within systems and with a variety of people has enabled me to have the ability to do the same in Raleigh.
Do you believe the state government is living up to its responsibility to adequately fund education? Please explain your position. (200 word limit): State Government and Education.
State government has education as one of the top priorities. There are numerous committees which deal with education issues within and outside the budget process. Education funding is like all others. At the moment there has been less funding because there has been less money. This is indeed a concern which is continually being addressed.
Do you believe the state government can help bring more jobs and economic development to North Carolina? If so, how? (150 word limit):
State Government is heavily involved in economic development for the state. The Department of Commerce works continuously with cities, counties and regions in the area of development. There are incentives in place, which have helped to bring jobs into the state. Jobs are definitely at the top of the list as we strive to have a stable economy. Even though there is a recession, companies are still moving to North Carolina and establishing an office or home office in our state.
Do you support an independent entity that would change political boundaries after each census rather than the current process (where the legislature changes the boundaries)?: NO
How can residents get involved in your campaign? Please include campaign manager or volunteer coordinator’s contact information.: Please e-mail Martha@marthabalexander.com or call 704-558-4670.
