Passage of the ReVenture sustainable energy legislation
Passage of the Yadkin River Trust legislation
What past experience do you have that you think best prepares you for this office? (150 word limit): Served on the NAACP national board of directors, which was about half the size of the NC House and functioned in a similar committee structure, with a strong chair, similar to the Speaker…
Do you believe the state government is living up to its responsibility to adequately fund education? Please explain your position. (200 word limit): 90% of state revenue funds two things…education and health and human services. Given the fall in state revenues, we are doing a good job. As revenues recover, however we need to increase educational funding …with an eye toward making the delivery of educational services more efficient.
Do you believe the state government can help bring more jobs and economic development to North Carolina? If so, how? (150 word limit): We need to focus on policies that will help small business expand, because small business collectively is the states largest employer. I suggest that we start by looking at businesses with annual gross revenues of under 500,000 and reduce their tax rate as a stimulus for them to employ more people.
Do you support an independent entity that would change political boundaries after each census rather than the current process (where the legislature changes the boundaries)?: NO
