What past experience do you have that you think best prepares you for this office? (150 word limit): NC needs to be a more business friendly state and needs a business approach to state government. I have been in the financial services industry for 24 years as well as a small business consultant for the past 15 years. I have consulted for public and private companies in a broad range of industries, including aerospace, computer equipment and software, consumer products, manufacturing, medical technology and telecommunications.
Do you believe the state government is living up to its responsibility to adequately fund education? Please explain your position. (200 word limit): Many factors determine the success or failure of a student. Funding is not the ultimate determining factor. Parental involvement and individual choices play bigger rolls in the success or failure of a student. Education must be improved at all levels in NC in order to prepare our students for the next generation of jobs. The state must continue to invest in its community college and university system while also offering a vocational education track in the high schools. I believe in a bottom-up approach to education by empowering teachers and school leaders to make decisions at the local level not bureaucrats Raleigh. I support NC lifting the cap off Charter schools in order to increase competition and choice for students.
Do you believe the state government can help bring more jobs and economic development to North Carolina? If so, how? (150 word limit): I am running to bring jobs back to North Carolina by lowering taxes, cutting wasteful spending and providing common sense solutions that bring positive results. I believe government does not create jobs but it can create the conditions that enable all businesses to grow and prosper.
These conditions can be fashioned by instituting a tax moratorium on NC manufactured goods, protecting NC’s “right to work” status, eliminating burdensome government regulations, reducing & flattening the corporate, income and sales tax rates and abolishing all state capital gains and interest income taxes .
Do you support an independent entity that would change political boundaries after each census rather than the current process (where the legislature changes the boundaries)?: NO
