Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission ( Past)

List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years. (150 word limit): Fiirst African American Republican to win an At- Large Primary Charlotte City Council

What past experience do you have that best prepares you for this office? (150 word limit): A tax paying citizen of Mecklenburg County
I am a small business owner in business over 13yrs in this community
I recognize what is needed to grow and retain small busineses I’ve been an employee of City County
government as well as Corporate
America. Which gives me balance as it pertains to service, stewardship and accountability

All levels of government are concerned about jobs creation in this current climate of high employment, yet the bulk of the county’s budget must go to education and health and human services. Are there steps you believe the County can take to create jobs? (200 word limit): Corporations and small business relocate because of access to goods and services, good business climate as it relates to taxes, ease of doing business, enviroments condusive to raising happy healthy families. But many think we should adopt to big corporations culture which robs communities of there good traditions and values, which is the very thing most companies look for

What will be the first issue you would like to work on if elected to the county commission? (150 word limit): The repeal of the Domestic Partnership Policy allowing for County
tax payer dollars to be distibuted to
County Employees who are of the same sex and cohabitate together
as married couples. This matter goes to the heart of why so many citizens particularly young people dont trust our elected officals and are discourged with the system. This issue was decided with very little community input and chages the course of this community in a bad way. We shoud work to get back on course.

Are there steps you believe the County can take to create jobs?
Facebook Page or URL: Tim McLeod for County Commission

Current Occupation: Self Employed/Concierge/Real Estate Broker

Education–Highest Degree: East Carolina University ‘77

Most important organizations you belong to (up to three): Republican Party
CAUTION
Avondale Presbyterian Church

List up to three (3) of your most important political/civic accomplishments in the last five (5) years. (150 word limit): 1)Ran for County Commission District 2 in 2008 and garnered largest percentage of vote vs Democrat candidate in history of that district
2)Served 2 terms of 2 years each as President of Lambda Chi Alpha – ECU Alumni Association (This is a group with a national as well as regional scope)
3)Chair of JDRF Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament Auction Procurement Committee for last 6 years. Have aided in the raising of funds in excess of 0,000.

What past experience do you have that best prepares you for this office? (150 word limit): 54 year citizen of Mecklenburg, Candidate for County Commission in 2008, small business person, real estate broker. I have started and sold 2 previous businesses here in Mecklenburg. I know how to run a business and balance a budget. I have served as a precinct chairperson and have kept in touch with the desires of the citizens. I have also participated in and mentored young men here in Mecklenburg in the area of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. My mother ran the Downtown soup kitchen for 14 years and working with her in that area helped me understand many other sectors of the population.

All levels of government are concerned about jobs creation in this current climate of high employment, yet the bulk of the county’s budget must go to education and health and human services. Are there steps you believe the County can take to create jobs? (200 word limit): I believe that we should lower the tax rate in Mecklenburg County. By so doing we can and will encourage new businesses to locate in our fair county, creating new jobs. Further it would lower the burden on existing private enterprises and allow them to hire more employees. Coincidentally, it would also raise tax revenue because we would have more citizens employed, spending money. More new businesses would purchase and/or lease space and create a larger tax base. We would garner more sales tax revenue as well. It would also lower the need for employment training expenditures being made by the county. Lowering the tax rate is a win/win situation for all concerned!

What will be the first issue you would like to work on if elected to the county commission? (150 word limit): There are 2 issues that deserve equal billing, cut spending and lower taxes. The new commission must scour the budget to find every savings possible. That alone will not get us out of the deficit we currently face. As stated before I suggest lowering the tax rate as an incentive to create more businesses, attract new businesses and thereby cut the unemployment rate.

How can residents get involved in your campaign? Please include campaign manager or volunteer coordinator’s contact information.: Volunteers may call me directly at 704-609-4107 or email me at mcleodforcountycommission@hotmail.com. In my campaign I am a very hands on person and will remain accessible to the citizens when I am elected. I might also suggest volunteering for the GOP here in Mecklenburg. We need poll workers desperately. A call to the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections can also garner volunteer opportunities.
